Lens replacement that can also correct visionReplace a clouded natural lens with a clear intraocular lens — premium IOLs available. Here's what it costs across destinations, who it's for, and why Colombia leads on value.
Cataract surgery removes the eye's clouded natural lens and replaces it with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL). It's one of the most common and successful surgeries performed worldwide.
The opportunity abroad lies in premium IOLs. While basic cataract surgery may be partly covered by insurance at home, multifocal, toric, and extended-depth-of-focus lenses — which can reduce or eliminate your need for glasses — often carry large out-of-pocket upgrade fees in the US. Abroad, premium-lens cataract surgery is frequently less than the upgrade fee alone would be at home.
Anyone with cataracts affecting daily vision. If you also want to reduce dependence on glasses, ask about premium IOL options.

It's elective until cataracts interfere with daily life, but it shouldn't be delayed indefinitely. A screening will assess how advanced yours are.
Standard monofocal IOLs correct one distance; premium multifocal, toric, or EDOF lenses can correct multiple distances and astigmatism, reducing glasses dependence.
Plan roughly a week per eye for surgery and follow-up. If both eyes need treatment, surgeons usually stage them a few days to a couple of weeks apart.
Leading clinics use the same phacoemulsification systems and the same premium IOL brands (Alcon, Johnson & Johnson, Zeiss) available at home.
